"Retirement?"

Part 8 General Comments

studio robb: Thanks to a busy family schedule and such, I remember I was *way* behind the DWIS deadline for this story (Four freaking months!). As such, I felt obligated to throw in a little bonus story just to remind people who certain characters were and what certain situations had been going on. And I even gave the Lizard-dude a chance to speak!

          L. J. loved being included in the story as a silhouette, and Jay-the-Editor was happy that I gave him an even number of pages to work with for once! (Though he wasn’t pleased with how late I was!)

Page 1: Having seemingly gotten a handle on how to draw Susan, I tried putting her back in her futuristic costume...ack! I still hated it, and never went back to it after this chapter. And, like all comic artists, I had fun sticking sci-fi characters in the crowd scenes!

Page 5: Drawing the bell tower and Big Ben (both with and without the clapper) was a challenge, especially since this was pre-internet and pre-scanner days...I had to research a bazillion encyclopedias for a few references, Xerox them, then cut the pictures out, paste them down, and draw on them.

For the record, Xerox paper *sucks* to ink on. The whole thing was such a pain and a mess that I forced myself to learn how to draw the damn bell and tower for the next chapter.

The "King Rupert" joke was mine...it hadn’t occurred to L. J. that Elizabeth II would have been long dead by the time this story took place --- she just liked the idea of sticking The Doctor in a Beef-Eater’s garb and dressing Ace and Susan up as palace guards.

       L. J. got a kick out of "King Rupert".

L.J. Scott: I think this installment speaks for itself.

Page 5: I had a rather boring way for the trio to figure out what happened to the clapper. Fortunately those frames were cut for space allowing me to figure out a single sentence opener that explained it all in the next installment.

The original script only specified that Ace & Susan were dressed as Royal Palace guards. At no time did I say they had to be the Elizabeth the 2nd versions. I'm pretty sure I was aware that Queen Elizabeth would have passed-on by 2213 a.d...

studio robb: and here's the script to prove it! i can't believe my memory is that shot!!
